Slaughter Loses to Sioux Falls; Eliminated from IFL Playoffs

Sioux Falls, SD – The Chicago Slaughter (7-9) lost in their second round matchup to the Sioux Falls Storm (13-3) 47-33 at the Sioux Falls Arena.   Sioux Falls took a 19-point early in the third quarter and never looked back.  The Slaughter did make things interesting in the fourth quarter as they cut the lead to six points, but they could not stave off elimination from the IFL Playoffs.
 
QB Tavares Woodley led the Slaughter attack, going 16-26 for 187 yards and two touchdowns.  WR Shatone Powers put together a great game, as he had seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown for Chicago.
 
Sioux Falls started the game off with a bang, as WR James Jones returned the opening kickoff 52 yards for a touchdown to put the Storm up 7-0.  After K Chris Nendick missed a field goal for Chicago, Sioux Falls drove the ball into Chicago territory and QB Terrance Bryant connected with WR James Terry for a 15-yard touchdown to extend their lead to 13-0.  The Slaughter responded with an impressive drive, capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown by RB Jarrett Payton to cut the deficit to 13-7.
 
Sioux Falls started the second quarter scoring as Jones scored on a four-yard carry to extend the Storm’s lead to 20-7.  Following a turnover by each team, the Slaughter scored as Woodley found Powers in the end zone for a 39-yard touchdown pass to make the score 20-14.  Late in the quarter, Chicago was called for intentional grounding in their own end zone, which gave Sioux Falls a safety and extending their lead to 22-7.   The Storm followed it up on their next possession as Bryant found Perry again for another touchdown to give them a 29-14 lead.  Nendick connected on a long field goal to cut the lead to 29-17 going into halftime.
 
Sioux Falls capitalized on a Woodley interception early in the third quarter, as Sean Treasure scored on a one-yard carry to extend their lead to 36-17.  The Slaughter responded with a nice drive of their own, as Woodley hooked up with WR Reggie Gray for a seven-yard touchdown pass to trim the lead to 36-23 after a failed two-point conversion to end the third quarter scoring.
 
Woodley picked up another touchdown for the Slaughter to start the fourth quarter, as his three-yard carry cut the lead to 36-30 with under 11 minutes left.  After the teams traded field goals later in the fourth quarter, Sioux Falls scored as Bryant found Jones out of the backfield to take a 47-33 lead with just over two minutes left in the quarter to finally put the game out of reach.
