CHICAGO SLAUGHTER ANNOUNCES POWERFUL ROSTER FOR 2010 SEASON
Team Re-Signs Nine Players From 2009 Championship Team; Adds NFL Veteran and College Standout
HOFFMAN ESTATES – The Chicago Slaughter is excited to announce its powerful roster taking shape for their 2010 inaugural year competing in the premiere Indoor Football League (IFL). In addition to last week’s exciting announcement surrounding the Slaughter’s signing of Jarrett Payton, son of legendary Chicago Bears great Walter Payton, as the team’s new running back for the 2010 season, the Slaughter has also re-signed 9 players from the undefeated 2009 CIFL Championship team as well as secured the talents of a former NFL veteran and an a recent Florida State University college standout.
Among the returning players is star defensive back Dennison Robinson, who, within his first five games after joining the Slaughter last season, picked off four passes returning two of them for touchdowns. Robinson was named to the 2002 AFL All-Rookie team after recording 67 receptions for 620 yards with nine TDs, and defensively adding three interceptions and 36.5 tackles. After earning two iron-man awards from his AFL team, the New Jersey/Las Vegas Gladiators in 2002 and 2004, he went on to be named AFL Defensive MVP in 2008. Place kicker Chris Nendick returns after completing a record-breaking season in 2009 culminating in 52 yard field goal in the championship game and leading the Slaughter to an undefeated perfect season and the 2009 CIFL Championship. The former NIU star and Naperville, IL native averaged nearly 9 points a game in 2009 setting records for most point-after attempts made in a game and most point-after attempts made in a season.
Two exciting new additions for the 2010 roaster comes with the signing of Orland Park, IL native and former NFL Offensive Lineman Jeff Roehl and Florida State Wide Receiver De’Cody Fagg. Roehl played college ball for Notre Dame before transferring to Northwestern University where he played offensive guard and eventually helped the Wildcats win the Big Ten Conference Championship in 2000. He has also spent time with the New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. Fagg, a strong physical player, emerged as one of FSU's most reliable receivers. He had 54 catches for 758 yards as a senior in 2007 and led the team with five touchdown receptions, including a 70-yarder against Alabama.
Other players returning in the 2010 season include Defensive Linemen Lionel Williams and Chris Pisani, Defensive Back, Brandon Fields, Linebacker Lenny Radtke, and Offensive Linemen Jon Binish, Jason Bakas and Rasche Hill.
“We’re very excited to be putting together such a strong veteran roaster this early in the signing process,” said Alan Perkins, Slaughter General Manager. “We’ve got some great talent returning to the Slaughter as well as some powerful new players joining the team this year. We anticipate a great start in the IFL come February kick-off.”
Offensive coordinator Pat Pistorio will also return for the 2010 season. During the 2009 season, Pistorio’s offense averaged a league leading 65 points per game and outscored their opponents by an average of nearly 30 points per game. Keith Hac will return as Defensive Coordinator for the Slaughter 2010 season. Additional player signings will be announced over the next few weeks.
