History
The Chicago Slaughter and Head Coach Steve McMichael enter their third year of Indoor football with their eyes firmly affixed to the 2009 CIFL Championship.
During the team’s inaugural season, the Slaughter recorded an impressive overall record of 10-4. After going 9-3 in the regular season, the Slaughter went 1-1 in reaching the Divisional Semi-Finals in the league playoffs.
The 2008 season saw the Slaughter suffer a slow start, going 2-3 in their first 5 games. However, the Slaughter rallied around head Coach Steve McMichael and managed to win 6 out of their next 7 games to finish the regular season at 8-4 and win the Western division title. Unfortunately, the Slaughter then suffered a 1st round playoff loss to divisional rival, Rock River, to end their season.
The Slaughter will continue their heated rivalry with the Kalamazoo Xplosion, and look for a rematch with the Raptors, as they seek to win a Championship.
The 2008 off season saw the Slaughter make some very aggressive moves with the addition of six NFL greats to the Slaughter Coaching Advisory Board and Broadcasting teams. 1985 Super Bowl Champions Jim McMahon, Otis Wilson and Emery Moorehead will be filling positions as special assistants to Coach Mongo to help with recruiting and scouting in the areas of quarterback, linebacker and tight ends. Moorehead has also been signed to serve as a radio analyst for 2009 Chicago Slaughter home games.
Former Chicago Bears' great Mickey Pruitt, 1996 Green Bay Packers' Super Bowl Champ Ron Cox and former NY Giants' QB Kent Graham have been added to assist in recruiting as well -- Graham will help out at the QB position, and Cox and Pruitt will assist in the recruitment and scouting of linebackers.
2009 proved that the 3rd time truly is a charm. In only it’s third season in existence, The Chicago Slaughter Professional Indoor Football team went 14-0 and captured their first CIFL Championship trophy in a truly historic season. Led by CIFL League MVP Quarterback Russ Michna, The Chicago Slaughter averaged over 65 points per game and outscored their opponents by almost an average of 30 points per game. The Slaughter defeated the Fort Wayne Freedom in the championship game, by a score of 58-48 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.
The offense was led by other major contributors such as Wide Receivers Bobby Sippio, Donovan Morgan, “Big Play” Reggie Gray, Dontrell Jackson, Kicker Chris Nendick & and a tremendous offensive line.
The defense was one of the stingiest ever in not letting their opponents find the end zone. The defense was led by players like DeJuan Alfonzo, Khreem Smith, Dennison Robinson, , Lenny Radtke & many, many more.
Many players on the Slaughter set CIFL individual records during the 2009 season, as well as the Slaughter setting many records as a team. Will The Chicago Slaughter be able to relive that dream again in the 2010 season? Only time will tell but you can bet we won’t settle for anything less than another championship trophy!
