Athletic Trainer

Scott R. Haertel, MS, ATC, CSCS is the licensed and certified Head Athletic Trainer for the Chicago Slaughter. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and his Master's Degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University. Scott works for Midwest Bone and Joint as a physician extender, as well as his athletic training responsibilities. Scott and MBJ have been with the Slaughter since their inaugural season.

Michael G. Kogan, MD

Biography: Michael G. Kogan, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who has been in practice with Midwest Bone & Joint since 1995. Dr. Kogan specializes in both general orthopedics, which includes fractures (broken bones) to sprains and strains. In addition, he is a specialist in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. This specialty requires completing a 1-year fellowship concentrating in this area after completing a 5-year orthopedic surgery residency. During residency, Dr. Kogan served on the medical team treating athletes at The Ohio State University.

Biography:
Joshua M. Alpert, MD joined the Midwest Bone & Joint Institute in 2008 after completing an Orthopedic Surgery fellowship at Harvard’s Sports Medicine Program at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Alpert grew up in Highland Park, Illinois and obtained an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Illinois-Champaign. He earned his MD at the Chicago Medical School and completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center. During his sports medicine fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, he served as a team physician for the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.
